In Mangystau region’s economy the key sector is mining industry
Large hydrocarbon reserves have promoted the development of key sector of the region’s economy – oil exploration and production. Marine transport is developing (on the ground of ports Aktau, Bautino and Kuryk). Agricultural production is small because of unfavourable weather conditions. There is a significant potential for the development of coastal tourism on the fringe of Caspian sea, in Kendirli recreation zone.
